Understanding Section 18

A careful pathway that must begin with respect for Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Section 18 is a statutory consent pathway under Western Australia’s Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972. It may apply where a proposed land use could affect an Aboriginal heritage site.

For developers, investors, landowners and project participants, Aboriginal heritage is not a final-stage issue. It must be considered early, carefully and respectfully before land-related decisions move forward.
