About Djiljit
Connecting Aboriginal leadership, industry experience and investment capability to create sustainable opportunities across Western Australia.
The Meaning of Djiljit
Djiljit, also written as Djildjit, comes from the Noongar language and means “fish”.
Noongar is the language of the Aboriginal people of South West Western Australia. It carries stories, knowledge, identity and connection to Country. For Noongar people, language is not only a way of speaking, but also a living expression of culture, place, memory and belonging.
In this context, the fish represents life, movement, sharing, sustainability and community prosperity. Fish move through rivers, lakes, estuaries and oceans, connecting different waters, places and ecosystems. This reflects the role Djiljit seeks to play — helping connect people, Country, culture, community priorities and local development opportunities.
The name Djiljit reminds us that meaningful growth must begin with respect for culture and Country. Like fish moving through water, Djiljit aims to move carefully and respectfully between communities, organisations and local enterprises, helping build trust, support cultural protection and create long-term benefit for future generations.
